We don't have your prayers.

This policy explains what Koum (“the app”, “we”) does with information when you use it on iPhone. It applies to the Koum iOS app and to this website.

What we never collect

• No account, email address, name or password. Koum has no sign-in.
• Your journal entries, prayers, streaks, alarm settings and reading history are never sent to us and we have no way to read them.
• No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no data brokers.
• We do not sell or share personal information. There is nothing to sell.

Where your content lives

Everything you write or record in Koum is stored on your iPhone. If you have iCloud enabled, it also syncs through your own private CloudKit database — an area of your personal iCloud that Apple encrypts and that the developer of an app cannot access. It moves with you to a new device when you sign in with the same Apple Account.

Deleting the app removes the local copy. Koum → Settings → Delete all data removes both the local copy and the private iCloud copy. Neither can be recovered by us, because we never had them.

Camera

Scanning uses the camera to read the page in front of you. Frames are processed on the device by Apple's Vision framework and discarded immediately. Images are never written to disk, never added to your photo library, and never uploaded.

When an on-device read is ambiguous, Koum may send the recognised text only — never the image — to a third-party language model to ask which passage it comes from. That text is a few lines of Scripture; it contains nothing about you, it is not linked to any identifier, and it is not retained by us. Most mornings never reach this step, because the on-device match succeeds first. You can avoid it entirely by using Say it or Type it.

Microphone and speech

Saying the verse aloud uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. Audio is transcribed on the iPhone and is not uploaded, not stored, and not sent to us.

Notifications

Koum uses local notifications and Apple's AlarmKit to ring alarms and to send the reminders described in the app. These are scheduled on your device. No push server is involved and no notification content leaves your iPhone.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are purchased through Apple's In-App Purchase and managed with RevenueCat, which records purchase events so the app knows whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-generated identifier and Apple's transaction data. It does not receive your name, your email address, or anything you write in the app. Apple never gives us your payment details.

Diagnostics

Koum includes no third-party analytics SDK. If you have opted in to share analytics and crash reports with developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may send us aggregated, anonymised crash and usage reports. You can turn that off in iOS at any time.

This website

koum.app is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and embeds no third-party trackers. Our host records standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for security and reliability, as every web server does.

Children

Koum is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Since the app collects no personal information from anyone, there is nothing held about a child either.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and similar laws you have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data a company holds about you. In Koum's case those rights are satisfied directly on your device: your data is in your hands, and Delete all data exercises the right to erasure completely. If you believe we hold something about you, email us and we will tell you exactly what we can see, which is very little.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, for any change that affects what is collected, say so in the app before it takes effect.
